Schizo Sonics
12. September 2020 – 16. May 2021
Exhibition at KINDL Center for contemporary Art Berlin
Nik Nowak (*1981 in Mainz, lives in Berlin) critically examines the use of sound as a weapon and medium of propaganda in his artworks. With Schizo Sonics he has realised a large-scale audio-visual installation featuring two powerful sound sculptures at the Kesselhaus of KINDL Center for Contemporary Art Berlin. A specially produced audio work, focusing upon aspects of Cold War politics, engages with examples of the ideological and acoustic proxy wars such as those played out in Berlin in the 1960s on the border between East and West Germany and then later in Jamaica during the 1970s, and which continue to be waged in the DMZ border area between North and South Korea.
The exhibition is curated by Kathrin Becker.
The exhibition takes place as part of Berlin Art Week (9 – 13 September 2020).
