The Mantis Installation/Performance

The Mantis Installation/Performance

About this project

– 2019 –

30 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall “The Mantis”, a mobile sound sculpture weighing almost 2 tons, refers to the “Berlin loudspeaker war” that took place during the embryonic days at the Berlin Wall from 1961 to 1965 at the inner German border.

In the performative audiovisual installation , Nik Nowak’s earlier mobile sound sculpture “Panzer” and “The Mantis” confront each other, separated by a barbed wire fence.

The video work was created in collaboration with the Berlin video artist Moritz Stumm.

An exclusive live performance by Nik Nowak with Moritz Stumm, Jessica Edwards, Hyperdub chief and author of the book “Sonic Warfare” Steve Goodman aka Kode9, as well as experimental rapper  Infinite Livez expand the discourse. The performance is produced under the technical direction of Endre Ketzel.
